Belize Eco-Tourism and Conservation Project

This site is the home of a research and education facility located in eastern central Belize, in a transition zone between pine ridge/savannah and tropical moist forest. The site is host to various educational groups and is striving to create a sustainable tourism facility for low-medium budget travelers. Local activities include: canoeing, caving, birding and hiking. The site is powered by wind, solar and bio-gas.
Volunteers play a crucial role in the establishment and development of the facility. Projects include: field research, trail maintenance and expansion, construction, organic gardening, educational program development, community workshops, tour conducting, wildlife documentation.
Skills and Experience: Volunteers should be self-motivated with strong interests in conservation, eco-tourism and sustainable development. Volunteers should be comfortable living in a remote, rural setting. Placements are designed on a person to person basis keeping the interests of both the organization and the individual in mind.
Living Conditions: The accommodations at the facility are rustic yet comfortable. Wholesome cooked meals are served daily in a screened kitchen/dining facility. Volunteers pay $15 per day for meals and lodging.
Getting There: Transportation to the site is not included and involves a bus ride from Belize City.
